December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

During the 16 Days of Activism, what will your commitment be to ending gender-based violence?

The 16 Days of Activism takes place each year running from Nov 25th to Dec 10th, which is a time dedicated to activism against gender-based violence. It is an opportunity for our communities to come together to call out, speak up and renew our commitment to end gender-based violence. Building a more inclusive, and safer community for everyone is vital as we move forward.

In Canada and around the world, women, girls, 2SLGBTQQIA+, and gender diverse individuals face unacceptable violence and discrimination. Gender-based violence has been magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted gaps in our social systems. A long-term strategy that addresses gender-based violence is needed. This long-term strategy must be supported with adequate funding and resources. The current housing crisis is one of many examples of concern for individuals who are living with abuse. Safe and affordable housing options must be available and needs to be addressed and a part of the solution in addressing gender-based violence.

On December 6th, The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women we think not only of those who have lost their lives to gender-based violence but also those who are currently living with abuse. Misogyny still exists today and eliminating gender-based violence requires collective action. We are better together by standing together to end gender-based violence.
