Maintenance and grounds workers at Mount Brenton Golf Course in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island ratified a new three-year deal in February 2025.
Golf clubs have been doing exceptionally well in the pandemic and post-pandemic period. Golf course employees have worked very hard and supported their employers throughout that stretch. It’s only fair that workers see some improvements in return, especially considering sharp increases to the cost-of-living over the last few years.
The members negotiated a deal that will see a 20 percent wage increase on average with some jumping as high as 24 percent. There are a host of other improvements including increased pension contributions, increased safety-gear allowance, more paid personal days, and other health and safety benefits and pay premiums.
Member training was another priority which led to the educational fund allowance being increased to $1000 per year.
2025 is a big year for golf course workers negotiating across British Columbia. Mount Brenton workers join numerous SEIU workplaces in raising the standard and improving the working conditions across the sector.
