Stand for Security - Benefit Plans
Allied Universal Security (AUS) – Ontario
To qualify for benefits you must work at least 130 hours a month on a regular basis. It does not matter if your hours accumulate at work locations or your have a permanent location.
Three months after your employment begins you qualify for benefits: Global Benefits SEIU Locals 1 & 2 Benefit Trust Fund, Policy #32T50.
Nothing for you. The employer pays for your benefits.
You must fill out a Global Benefits enrollment form. AUS is supposed to give each employee an enrollment form. This doesn’t always happen. Ask your supervisor for the form and you must return it to your supervisor (keep a copy for your records). If s/he doesn’t provide one, you can download one here.
Please ensure to fill the form out fully and correctly. Failure to complete the form may lead to delays in you being able to use your benefits.
Once you have finished probation the employer is obligated to submit your enrolment form along with the contribution outlined in your Collective Agreement to Global Benefits.
The start of the following month you should be eligible to make claims and will a benefits card in the mail.
For example, if you finish probation at the beginning of August, the contributions and enrolment forms should be submitted to Global Benefits by September 15th. That would qualify you to use the benefits starting October 1st.
In short, the benefits start two months after you finish probation.
FINISH PROBATION > COMPANY PAYS BENEFITS BY 15TH OF NEXT MONTH > 1ST OF NEXT MONTH BENEFIT COVERAGE BEGINS & CARD MAILED OUT
This also means your benefits continue for the same period if you are laid off or quit.
If you are off on WSIB or pregnancy leave your employer must maintain your benefits. If you are off sick for non-work-related reasons and want to maintain your benefits, please call Global Benefits to arrange making payments.
You are responsible for making sure the company and Global Benefits have your correct address and contact information.
Any hours worked over 130 in a month go towards an ‘hour bank’. These hours get applied to any month you may be short of 130 hours to maintain your benefits up to a maximum of 390 hours.
To see how many hours you have in your ‘hour bank’ you can check via the Global benefits app, online portal or by calling Global Benefits.
